Enel Green Power brought two new solar plants online in South Africa, with enough capacity to power 100,000 households, the company announced on Monday.
The Adams and Pulida solar photovoltaic plants, located in South Africa鈥檚 Northern Cape and Free State provinces, have a capacity of 82.5 megawatts.
Together, Adams and Pulida will be able to generate 318 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual consumption needs of around 100,000 South African households, Enel said.
The plants will also help to avoid the emission of more than 290,000 tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere each year.
The two solar plants are supported by a 20-year power supply agreement with South African power utility Eskom.
Enel added to its growing portfolio in South Africa where the company also owns and operates three other photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 159 megawatts.
The company also operates a 88 megawatt wind farm in the Eastern Cape, and is in the building process for a 111 megawatt wind facility.
