Turkey's electricity consumption increased by 12.24% in March, compared to the same month of 2020, according to the latest data released by Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.
The country's power consumption reached 27.60 billion kilowatt-hours last month and electricity production also increased by 13.9% to 27.88 billion kilowatt-hours compared to March 2020.
Out of March's total production, hydro plants generated 22.15% while 28.9% was derived from natural gas and 16.35% from imported coal.
The share of local coal plants in electricity generation was 14.33%. Wind plants generated 8.9% and the remaining share came from geothermal, fuel oil and biogas plants.
Last month, Turkey's electricity imports from neighboring countries decreased by around 70.3% to 91.31 million kilowatt-hours compared to 307.18 million kilowatt-hours in March 2020.
Electricity exports increased by around 92.5% to 368 million kilowatt-hours.
Turkey's total installed power capacity reached 96.7 gigawatts as at the end of February 2021, according to official figures.
