Iran demands UN action after Israeli strike, blames US for escalation

- Israeli strike crossed 鈥榬ed lines,鈥 talks now 鈥榤eaningless,鈥 says Foreign Ministry

Iran on Friday called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council following what it described as a 鈥渃riminal鈥 Israeli strike that violated its territorial integrity, according to local media.

Tasnim News Agency reported that Iran鈥檚 Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed that Tehran had engaged with regional partners and formally requested an urgent Security Council session.

鈥淭he Security Council has a specific duty, and the regime's aggressive action must be seriously investigated and the necessary mechanism put in place,鈥 he said.

Blaming the US for enabling the assault, Baghaei added: 鈥淚t is unimaginable for anyone that the regime would have committed such a crime without American permission.鈥

He also condemned the attack as a deliberate escalation aimed at derailing diplomatic efforts.

鈥淲ith this criminal act, the regime rejected all of Iran's red lines,鈥 Baghaei said.

鈥淭he other side did something that made the conversation meaningless. You cannot simultaneously claim to negotiate and... allow the genocidal regime to target Iran's territorial integrity,鈥 he added.

The escalation casts doubt over the future of聽nuclear聽negotiations between Tehran and Washington, which were being mediated by Oman. The sixth round of indirect talks, scheduled for Sunday, is now likely to be canceled, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Baghaei also warned that Israel's objective may be broader than the strike itself.

鈥淏asically, the Zionist regime wanted to drag the Western parties into trouble. It seems that this time, it succeeded in influencing the diplomatic process.鈥

In the early hours of Friday, Israeli forces attacked Iran, hitting聽nuclear聽and missile facilities and killing over 104 people, including top military commanders and scientists, and injuring nearly 380 others.

According to reports, Iran responded with ballistic missiles targeting several areas across Israel, killing three people and injuring over 90 others.
