Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) will supply Engie's Tonstad Wind Park in southern Norway with 51 of its SWT-DD-142 onshore wind turbines with a total capacity of 208 megawatts (MW), the company announced Friday.
After commissioning, the wind farm, developed by the French energy group, will be one of the largest in Norway, according to the company's press release.
Siemens Gamesa will also secure the long-term performance of the wind farm with a full service agreement.
Installation of the wind farm, which is located in the municipalities of Sirdal and Flekkefjord, will begin next year.
According to the statement, the energy produced at the Tonstad Wind Park will be delivered to Hydro Energi, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Norwegian aluminum producer Hydro.
Hydro Energi signed a Power Purchase Agreement, which will run for the next 25 years, SGRE said, adding the annual production would be more than 0.6 terawatt-hours, with savings of nearly 526,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
The generated energy is also expected to allow Hydro to produce around 50,000 tons of aluminum per year at its Norwegian plants.
According to the statement, Siemens Gamesa recently announced the supply of 70 wind turbines in three other projects in Norway.
The company has been operating in the Nordic country since 2002 with an accumulated installed capacity of more than 630 MW and with over 252 turbines.
